Tomoyuki Sakaguchi has presented two series of photographs in previous Hitotsubo Exhibitions at Guardian Garden: photographs of stations taken from the window of express trains and long shots of skyscrapers. For this exhibition, he will display photographs of residential districts in the small hours of the morning. They were taken with digital cameras using long exposures. Sakaguchi, who has a background in geophysics, says that he aimed to take photographs that were like ‘mechanical shots from an artificial satellite’.
Opening party on June 19th, 6:30-8:00pm.
Gallery talk by the artist on June 24th, 5:30-6:30pm No reservations or fee necessary.

The Grand Gesture of La Defense

The Grand Gesture of La Defense

While in Paris recently I had meetings in La Defense - a place outside of Paris proper where amazingly large and grand buildings stand like tall stalks of structural wheat glistening in the sun. This amazing building holds a large object in suspension delicately hanging within this immense structure.
